there's the kind of gay where you're attracted to the same sex, and then there's the kind of gay where you're attracted to a similar gender.
i suppose any given person could be one, both, or neither, and at any given time.
has anyone thought this before? what do people make of it?

Yep. Every day.
It's part of the reason why as an asexual woman, I've always felt a strong bond with the transgender community. I don't care about people's sex; I care about their gender. You just seem to be one of the few people who understands the distinction.
i suppose it should be acknowledged that there is most frequently a correlation between sex and gender.
to take it even further, a person who is attracted to a certain gender in one sex may not be attracted to that gender in another sex.
